Curriculum Vitae

ian r. hill

Ian Hill was born in Western Australia in 1942 and grew up at Muresk. It was here with the changing seasons and moods of the hills, that his passion for the Australian landscape was born. It was here too, whilst listening to the stories of the many overseas students brought to the Muresk College through the Colombo plan, that his ambition to travel grew. In 1963 he embarked on a back packing trip that lasted seven years. He visited 68 countries travelling through Asia, Africa, Europe and the Pacific. On his return to Perth, he studied fine Arts at Claremont School of Art and Printmaking at St. Brigid’s. In 2002 Ian completed an Associate Degree in Art with Curtin University. Since 1980, Ian has taught drawing, painting and printmaking with TAFE and the Department of Corrective Services. He has also organized classes and workshops at the Mundaring Community Arts and Crafts Centre and Special Art at Kalamunda Senior High School and CY O’Connor College of TAFE, Northam.

Many of the images of this exhibition are inspired from a journey from Derby in the west to Turkey Creek (Warmun) in the East. a journey of more than a quarter of a century recording stories and images in visual journals of a timeless country. Gathering stories of good times and sad times, pastoral and mining industries expansion all in the context of a remote, rugged, diverse Kimberley landscape.
